Learn More About Player Pianos
A player piano works the same way as a conventional piano. Typically, these pianos are acoustic pianos equipped either with a paper roll mechanism from the early 1900s or with electronic mechanisms that went into use in the 1980s. You can install electronic player mechanisms in any existing piano to make it play with expression.
These pianos can play actual music as well as background music and vocals, similar to roll players. An existing piano cannot be upgraded with roll players. Originally, they had to be installed when the piano was built. Don Winchester's Piano Tuning restores pneumatically operated roll players.
